I had my first introduction to juicing at a fairly young age when my parents bought their first juicer. Unfortunately, juicers back then didn’t do the best job at extracting pulp, so it felt like I was drinking liquid soil. Needless to say it turned me off of juicing for several years. Until recently.
As I researched more about wellness online, dozens of people were talking about the benefits of juicing and I was convinced to give it a go again. This time, I did some research to discover what flavours worked together. And let me tell you: it was love at first juice.
I call this “True Love Juice”, since the warm reddish-orange hue describes so perfectly the blush of emotions that bubble up when one is truly in love. And what better way to show your body some love than bathing your cells in a nutrient rich beverage?
The gorgeous fiery colour of this juice comes from the detoxifying beet leaves and stems and beta-carotene rich carrots. Beets help to greatly reduce the risk of cancer, are anti-inflammatory and nourish your liver and gallbladder.
As I learned long ago, beets have a super concentrated flavour, earthy and sweet, so it’s best to juice them with veggies that are milder tasting like celery, apple, cucumber, lime or lemon juice. To be honest, you really don’t need a “recipe” for a juice, since any combination you like will work. However, if you’re new, it’s always good to start with a few tried and true recipes to ease into the process.
Because you are juicing fruits and veggies, and essentially concentrating nutrients (or pesticides) by doing so, it is vitally important to select organic produce. What’s the point in detoxifying and nourishing your body if you’re going to dump a barrage of chemicals in there as well?
Ingredients:
- 1 lime peeled
- 2 carrots
- 1 apple, cut into quarters
- 2-3 ribs of celery
- 2 leafy beet tops
Method:
- Wash all the above vegetables well, especially the beet tops and stems as they tend to collect a lot of soil.
- Juice the above ingredients together and drink immediately.
Show your body some love and nourish it! 🙂
